Cockatoo
Hill
Welcome to the Daintree's most beautiful boutique resort; a secret
paradise perched between Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas where
four exclusive tree lodges are your private, temporary home.
Cockatoo
Hill Retreat's position is breathtaking. It is situated on a rainforest
ridge with wrap around views extending from Hutchinson Hill towards
Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea to the east and to the dramatic
heights of Thornton Peak in the west.
Cockatoo
Hill Retreat is in the very heart of the Daintree in an area known
for its superb biodiversity. In and around Cooper Creek and Noah
Creek is where new species of rainforest plants are still being
discovered in refugial rainforests thought to be 135 million years
old.
As
you would expect there is a rich wildlife to be seen regularly
at the retreat, including a large variety of birds, the reclusive
rainforest cassowary is a regular visitor, living in this forest
habitat which also supports the beautiful Ulysses and Cairns Birdwing
butterflies, the friendly green tree frog, shy goannas and water
dragons.
Location
Beautifully
remote yet accessible, Cockatoo Hill Retreat is in the living
heart of the Daintree coastal wilderness. Beyond the Daintree
River, across the ferry towards Cape Tribulation, lies Cockatoo
Hill Retreat - and another world.
You
can arrive by road by way of the vehicle ferry across the Daintree
River that operates from 6am to midnight daily. Travelling times
are approximately 2 hours drive North of Cairns and 1 hour North
of Port Douglas. The road to the Retreat is accessible by a traditional
vehicle, however for those wishing wish to explore the area beyond
Cape Tribulation; you will need to take a 4WD vehicle tour.
The
other option is to take a private light aircraft or a helicopter
from Cairns and Port Douglas respectively to the country airstrip
of Cow Bay, just 4 k's from Cockatoo Hill Retreat. Transfers are
available by prior arrangement.
