The Great Australian Outback And The Amazing Atherton Tablelands.

Experience the mist-shrouded waterfalls, Crater Lakes and Gorges of this magical part of Tropical North Queensland. Alternatively picture yourself having lunch on the side of a "Bush Billabong" after trekking the vastness of Outback Australia, stopping to see natural wonders such as the magnificent Mt Mulligan Escarpment along the way.

Your days will be full of adventure; in contrast your evenings and nights will be spent in luxury. Imagine staying at a lovingly restored, 120 year old Goldmine with authentic chambers, or as a guest at one of a range of unique lodges and cabins, each offering 4-5 star accommodations and facilities of a superior level.

These properties are situated in some of the most stunning locations on the Tablelands overlooking lakes, mountains or even in the heart of our Rainforest. For a description of recommended short and longer stay accommodation see our hand picked selection listed under Atherton Tablelands.

For those of you who have a particular interest in our native Australian wildlife, special arrangements can be made for wildlife treks and bird watching; under the right conditions it is possible to adventure in to the bush after dark, to see the rainforest creatures in their natural habitat.

At certain locations angling expeditions can be arranged. Our local fish, the Barramundi, has a reputation second-to-none, not only as a fighter, catches of over 35kg have been recorded to date (including the World Record), but as good Aussie tucker.

  • Day 1: Leave Port Douglas or Cairns around 9 am bound for Tyrconnell Gold Mine. On the way we will visit The Golden Drop Mango Winery, tastings are encouraged, then on to see our local Coffee Plantations where you can experience the difference. Arrive at Tyrconnell, in the mid afternoon. There will be time to enjoy a tour of this fascinating Mine, now having been restored to its former glory of 1880, before retiring to your quarters to prepare for dinner with your hosts.
  • Day 2: Up with the sun and after a good hearty brekky you're on your way to the magnificent Mt Mulligan Escarpment. Learn about the day in 1921 when 120 miners lost their lives, move among the relics, feel the history of what was once a thriving Community. Onward to Irvinebank & Herberton - Historic Outback towns that thrived from 1880 to 1920 followed by a traditional Outback Pub or Bush Billabong for lunch. By the way, don't miss a visit to the Loundon House Museum in Irvinebank. We make our way across the lush, unspoilt and scenic Southern Atherton Tablelands to rendezvous with your hosts for the night. As guests of the local community you will be offered a selection of 4 or 5 star accommodation. Dinner is your choice, with complimentary transfer to and from a local restaurant.

  • Day 3: Up a little later than usual today, a quiet breakfast then a short journey to Lake Barrine to see Mother Nature at her most wondrous and ponder how it all came about over a pot of tea at the infamous Tea House. There will be an opportunity to stop off at the 2-storey hide for bird watching at Hasties Swamp and then Hallorans Hill environmental lookout on the edge of an extinct volcano before descending the Great Dividing Range to sea level for a late lunch on the Coast.

This tour is a most popular way to get a taste of 'Real Outback Australia' particularly amongst our overseas visitors, however tour director, John Donovan (a typical 'true blue Aussie') is able to tailor the tours to meet any special interests. Should you be interested in experiencing this wonderful Outback adventure, or any of the other fascinating tours available, an extended list is available on request.

We can offer a choice of accommodation ranging from luxury guest houses, to lodges or cabins.

NB: Please note that we make every effort to fulfil our guests' wishes, however, since this is a popular tour we do reserve the right to place you where there is availability under these two categories, within the location that you have specified.

Please contact us for all bookings of these or any other tours, and should you have any specific enquiries our staff will be happy to assist.
